Teaching Philosophy
I'm a Bay Area native that's been playing in bands in San Francisco and the Peninsula for almost 40 years. I started teaching guitar full-time over 20 years ago, mostly at Gelb Music in Redwood City, then virtually over Zoom and FaceTime, or in-person at my home studio in Menlo Park. I can help kids through adults get started with any style, electric or acoustic, but for more advanced students, my passions are Rock, Metal and Electric Blues.
I do not focus on sight reading, and all lessons are in Tab form. I personalize the lessons to focus on what I think the student needs to get them where they want to go, while trying to keep it fun with songs or bands they are interested in. I incorporate as much or as little theory as the student needs to stay motivated and start to integrate the ideas into their playing.
As a self-taught guitarist, I know that the student is really the one who teaches themselves to play. As a teacher, my job is to help students avoid bad habits, develop good technique through sensible and achievable practice habits, and keep them motivated and excited. If this sounds like the type of help you've been looking for, send me an email or text and we can set up a time for a free session to let you see if it's a good fit for you.
Fees and policies
Since it is my profession, I have a few policies that I have in place and I hope that you can agree with them so that I can keep a streamline business and focus on what’s most important, teaching!
I charge 40.00 per 30-minute lesson. I send out invoices for the month in advance and ask that all lessons are paid at the beginning of the month. I offer 1 make-up for a missed lesson per month. **If the student misses the arranged make-up time, it is no longer a make-up.
